Fashion Design: *Elena Salmistraro*

Paper & Felt.

Just 2 basic words to access Elena Salmistraro‘s  fashion world – a graduate from Politecnico di Milano Italian designer – who shapes evocative and romantic wearables by embroidering felt and turning waste paper into chewed paper/papier-mâché works.

One-off  hand-crafted pieces close to fashion art and likely to add a dreamy touch to special occasions outfits.

Wearable Art: *Martacarmela Sotelo*

Imagine an architect who loves creating colorful knitted, fiber and silver structures easily turning into wearable artworks to light up fashionable outfits…

This is Martacarmela Sotelo, a Mexican design-artist who  – after studying architecture at Iberoamericana University in México and graduating with an MA at Central Saint Martins Collage of Art and Design in London –  launched her collections of Knitted Gems – tricot style pearls – and Portable Linesa series of textile jewellery made up with old t-shirts’s scraps then wrapped and ready to be worn again, but in a different form.

Her last line Geometries  explores the potential of geometrical shapes (..) The pieces are made of silver, blackened silver and/or gold guilded rex, as well as inox steel wire with nylon (…) hanging from cotton hand torched thread.

Fashion Design: *Ayda Pekin*

Bihter Ayda Pekin is a Turkish born jewels designer with  a fine  taste for timeless pieces.

In 2006 she launched her own brand, Ayda Pekin and three years later she opened her cosy design store in Galata, in the very heart of Istanbul, where all her collections are now retailed.  Romantic, experimental and easy-to-wear, her creations have been on show during fashion weeks and international jewels exhibitions.

News:*Four Escapes*

Lilla Galleriet, a Gallery founded by Lisa Holvik in 2009 in Klädesholmen – Göteborg’s area – Sweden, is launching a new exhibition, running for the whole weekend: Four Escapes, with works by emerging jewels designers Ellen Jacobsen Holvik, Hanna Liljenberg, Malin Lövgren and Karin Roy Andersson.

Fashion Design: *GEM SESSIONS*

GEM SESSIONS  is a recently launched line of wearables started by Jewels designer Sayaka Yamamoto, consisting in a very well balanced negotiation between industrial and handmade.

F/W 2011-12 Collection’s main piece is Kuro, a series of voluminous – but surprisingly light – architectural and fashionable necklaces and brooches.

DesignArt: *ARTIFIZIO*

5 Italian DesignArtists, all based in 5 different towns: Luisa Bruni (Rome), Gigi Mariani (Modena), Elena Martinelli (Genoa), Paolo Mazzeschi (L’Aquila), Claudio Ranfagni (Florence), all sharing the same passion for contemporary handmade jewellery, linked and grouped together through a web based virtual collective StudioLab called ARTIFIZIO 

Each of them works separately and they usually share their creations only once about to assemble each new piece. Individuality helps preserving the artistic side, and the power of the network adds strenght while striving in a more and more competitive market…and it works!
